Apple May Phase Out Non-Touch High-End MacBook Pros

Apple will likely consolidate its high-end MacBook Pro lineup around touchscreen models, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Writing in his latest "Power On" newsletter, Gurman questioned whether Apple would keep updating its high-end ‌MacBook Pro‌ models without touchscreens. The company has retained the mini-LED M5 Pro and M5 Max models alongside the new touchscreen versions, which cost $400 more.

Gurman cited the resources required to support parallel product lines across development, production, and promotion. Given the price difference, he expects the two offerings to converge, although he did not specify when Apple might stop developing the non-touch models.

Gurman added that Apple plans to introduce another generation of touchscreen MacBook Pros in 2027. These machines will use M7 Pro and M7 Max processors with additional hardware capabilities for AI. He previously said the chip upgrade would arrive toward the end of 2027.

The redesign will also reach the entry-level 14-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌, according to Gurman. Apple plans to offer an M7 version with reduced weight, a thinner enclosure, and narrower borders around the display, similar to the new high-end models. Gurman first reported plans for the redesigned base model in July, when he outlined a potential launch in the first half of 2027.

Apple unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pros last week, retaining the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced in March. The redesign pairs OLED displays and Dynamic Island with a lighter, slightly thinner enclosure and a revised cooling system that channels warm air away from the screen.

Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

Mark Gurman: Apple Made 'Major Mistake' With iPhone Duo Pre-Orders

Despite knowing that the iPhone Duo would face "severe supply constraints" due to manufacturing challenges, Apple chose to begin iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday instead of waiting until it had more inventory ready, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter today, he called this decision a "major mistake." "Let me cut to the chase: Apple made a major mistake here," he...

Ah, but if you don’t want it, you can turn the touchscreen off in settings.

That alone is an experience worth $400, I assure you.

They sure will, it’s a good excuse to raise the price 400 bucks. I saw this coming.

Anything they can do to raise prices without costing them hardly anything.

I just want that OLED display on Mac that isn’t on the bleeding edge of performance/price. I don’t need performance at all past the level of a MacBook Air, but I still would like a nicer display. So I’d appreciate it if they could decouple high-end displays from high-end processors.

I think this is a given. We don’t need “throw everything at the wall to see what sticks” Gur-Man to tell us this.

i don't want a touch screen laptop lmao. what are apple smoking?

mark my words they'll force it down everyone's throat to justify a price hike and then they'll scrap it and not only keep the price as it is....they'll probably do another price hike!

if you want a touch screen then buy an iPad.
